Updated Oct. 28, 2024: The new traffic pattern is expected to go into effect during the week of Oct. 28.

New traffic patterns will go into effect at the intersection of Prince William Parkway and University Boulevard near the Science and Technology Campus. To improve traffic operations and safety, left turns will no longer be permitted at this intersection. This will affect the way drivers enter and exit the SciTech Campus from these routes.

Heading south on Prince William Parkway, drivers will need to turn right onto Discovery Boulevard before reaching the intersection with University Boulevard. Then, at the new intersection with University Boulevard, turn left toward the SciTech Campus.

To go south on Prince William Parkway from University Boulevard, drivers will need to head west on University Boulevard, proceed straight through the intersection with Prince William Parkway, and then turn right to head south on Prince William Parkway.

This project is administered by the Prince William County Department of Transportation. View the provided diagram of the traffic changes.

Colgan Hall will be closed until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, while a crane loads a unit onto the building roof. The crane will be parked in the loading dock between Colgan Hall and Katherine Johnson Hall. For questions, contact Carrie McVicker at cgrubb1@gmu.edu.

Contractors will complete sidewalk repairs behind Katherine Johnson Hall from Monday, May 13, through Monday, May 20. Work will occur each day between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Please avoid the area as there will be heavy equipment, trucks, and workers present. Traffic controls and safety protocols will be in place.

The internal directional signage is under repair in David King Hall and Exploratory Hall on the Fairfax Campus, and in Colgan Hall on the SciTech Campus. The temporary signage in those buildings does not contain Braille and is not tactile. For assistance related to this temporary signage, please contact the ADA Office at ada@gmu.edu.

Mason Facilities is excited to announce a Custodial Pilot Program launching this fall on the SciTech Campus and in Merten Hall on the Fairfax Campus.

This pilot program is part of ongoing efforts to establish new service models that enhance Mason’s sustainability, efficiency, and service delivery.

The Custodial Pilot Program will include the following services:

Centralized Trash Cans: Centralized trash cans in common areas will standardize cleaning protocols and resources.
Focus on High Traffic Areas: Common spaces and high traffic areas will be cleaned daily.
Bi-weekly Private Office Cleaning: Offices will be cleaned to the same standard, under a new, every-other-week frequency.*

Offices on the SciTech Campus and in Merten Hall will begin the transition to centralized trash repositories on Oct. 1, 2023. Personal trash cans in offices will be removed in these locations.

As the fall 2023 semester begins, Mason students, faculty and staff are reminded that traffic on and around the Fairfax Campus greatly increases, especially during the first few weeks of the semester. This campus parking and transportation guide with information on Mason Shuttles, visitor and non-permit parking options, biking, carpooling and other transit options will help minimize potential parking and traffic delays.

A valid parking permit (virtual or hangtag) is required to park outside of visitor areas.

During the first few weeks of the semester, we suggest allowing an extra 30 minutes to arrive on campus. Though some parking spaces are more convenient to your destination than others, the Fairfax Campus has more than enough spaces to accommodate all vehicles. However, many general parking permit areas fill at peak class times.

At times during the morning, late afternoon, and early evenings, campus police cadets will be directing traffic around campus. Please be alert and follow the cadets’ directions.

As the new academic year begins, remember that campuses will be busier. Please be mindful of sharing the road safely with an increased number of pedestrians as well as vehicles including scooters, motorcycles, bikes, cars and trucks.

Reminder: Virtual Permits

You must have associated your license plate with your parking permit by August 1 or when you purchase a new semester permit. Starting with the fall 2023 semester, Mason transitioned to a program in which your license plate serves as your parking credential. Hangtag permits will no longer be issued (with very few exceptions).

For guidance on how to associate vehicles to a permit, follow the step-by-step instructions on the Parking and Transportation website. To remove vehicles that you no longer use, own, or possess, complete the Vehicle Deactivation Request form to remove the vehicles from your parking portal.

Virtual parking permits will be sold online only at parking.gmu.edu. Permits will be sold as daily, weekly, monthly, and semester options.
